What it means to be Uplift Accredited

Clicked a badge and landed here? Good — that's exactly what it's for. This page explains, in plain terms, what an Uplift Accredited standing represents, what it deliberately does not, and how you can always check that one is current.

What the standing represents

An Uplift Accredited standing means an organization's website was assessed against WCAG 2.1 Level AA — through automated testing and structured human review — and met the standard at the time of verification. It reflects demonstrated work, verified by a person, against a published methodology anyone can read.

It also means the organization chose to be measured against something real, and to be held to it — the standing is dated, expires, and can be lost.

What it does not represent

Honesty about the limits is what makes the standing worth anything:

  • It is not a government certification. No government body certifies websites as accessible.
  • It is not a determination of legal compliance with the ADA, Section 504, or any other law. Only a court can determine that.
  • It is not a guarantee that a website is fully accessible to every person — automated testing detects only part of the picture, and human review narrows but never closes that gap.
  • It is not permanent. A standing reflects the site at the time of assessment, and websites change.

Uplift Accredited is a digital accessibility recognition program. It is not affiliated with CMS, ACHC, CHAP, or The Joint Commission and does not affect Medicare certification or clinical accreditation status.

The badge is live, not a sticker

The Uplift Accredited badge is served from our systems in real time — never a static image. Every badge shows the organization's current status and links to its public verification page, where you can see exactly what was assessed and when.

If a standing expires or is revoked, every badge reflects that automatically. That's the point: a badge you see is a badge that's current, because there's no way to keep displaying one that isn't.

How a standing is kept — or lost

A standing is valid for 12 months and is renewed through a full reassessment under the then-current methodology. A permanent badge would be meaningless within months, so ours expires on purpose.

A standing can also be revoked — for a material regression, misleading badge display, or misrepresentation — with notice and an opportunity to cure first. The full validity, renewal, and revocation terms are on the standards page.
